Lights and sirens are for critical situations. On average, lights and sirens save approximately 2-3 minutes when running to a call. Lights and sirens also raise the risk of accidents. If an ambulance is running lights and sirens, you should slow down, move to the right, and stop to let them pass when possible.

EMT’s can provide Basic Life Saving care. Think CPR, AED use, O2 therapy, controlling bleeding, splinting fractures, assisting with childbirth. Paramedic’s can do everything an EMT does ass well as providing Advanced Life Saving care. They can start IV’s, push medications, interpret ECG’s, and make critical treatment decisions that are best for their patient.

This depends on the call and the crew. Most times it is acceptable for family members to ride in the front of an ambulance as long as it does not directly interfere with patient care and is safe to do so.

We utilize a shift schedule with 3 shift rotations, A, B, C. 24 hour shift and 48 hours off. We have a 5 shift and 6 shift rotation where every 5th or 6th shift worked, you get 5 days off in a row. Hours are 0800-0800.
